Federated States of Micronesia Strongly Condemns North Korea's Nuclear Test

Palikir, Pohnpei: The Federated States of Micronesia joins the international community in condemning in the strongest term the recent nuclear test by North Korea as an irresponsible and provocative act that poses serious threats to international peace and security.

As a matter of grave regional security concern, the Federated States of Micronesia urges the international community for a united front against defiant North Korea, particularly in taking swift and decisive actions through the UN Security Council to address the threats posed by North Korea as a nuclear armed state. It is also of grave concern to the Federated States of Micronesia that the purported test has repercussions not only for world peace but for an escalation of arms race specifically in the already volatile Asia-Pacific region, which could spiral into arms conflict, hence threatening the stability of the region and the world at large.

In supporting a heavy handed approach toward North Korea by the international community, the Federated States of Micronesia also urges all concerned in giving strong impetus to the resumption of the six party talks as a way of addressing an already tensed and potentially explosive situation through dialogue.
