Diplomatic relations established between Federated States of Micronesia and Brazil

New York (FSM Permanent Mission to the United Nations): October 26, 2010 - Diplomatic relations between the Federated States of Micronesia (FSM) and the Federative Republic of Brazil were formally established today in New York with the signing of a Joint Communiqué on the Establishment of Diplomatic Relations between the two countries.

The agreement was signed by Ambassador Masao Nakayama, the Permanent Representative of the Federated States of Micronesia to the United Nations and his counterpart Ambassador Maria Luiza Ribeiro Viotti, the Permanent Representative of the Federative Republic of Brazil to the United Nations.

In the Joint Communiqué the two Ambassadors declared:

"The Federated States of Micronesia and the Federative Republic of Brazil share the firm conviction that diplomatic relations will contribute to the economic and social development of both states and to the strengthening of world peace and understanding." The two parties affirmed their wish to "develop relations of friendship and cooperation in the political, economic, cultural and other fields, based on the principles and norms set forth in the Charter of the United Nations and International Law."

The addition of the Federative Republic of Brazil brings the number of countries sharing diplomatic relations with the Federated States of Micronesia to 64.
