President Mori meets US Army Corps of Engineers

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): January 25, 2011 - On January 20, President Mori met with four members of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers of the Honolulu District: Lieutenant Colonel Douglas Guttormsen, Commander and District Engineer, Anthony Paresa, Deputy District Engineer, Shivaun White, District Counsel, and Derek Chow, Chief of the Civil and Public Works Branch. The U.S. Delegation arrived in Pohnpei on January 19, and visited Chuuk State from January 22 to 24.

Guttormsen, head of the Delegation, informed President Mori this was his first trip to the Federated States of Micronesia since his appointment as the Honolulu District Commander in July 2010. Mori thanked the delegation for their visit and expressed the FSM's appreciation for the continued assistance from the U.S. under the Amended Compact, especially for the Compact-funded infrastructure projects.

He also specifically thanked Guttormsen for his office's role in the upcoming implementation of two JEMCO resolutions: one for the renovation of Pohnpei State Hospital and one for an assessment survey of the Government Project Management Unit.

JEMCO stands for "Joint Economic Management Committee." The Committee is a joint US-FSM management body, created under the Amended Compact, to ensure FSM compliance with US-mandated funding stipulations.
