Vice President Alik Designates Expert Working Group Members for the FSM Climate Change Country Team

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): January 30, 2008 - The FSM Department of Environment and Emergency Management is in the process of preparing the Second National Communication (SNC) for the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNCCC).

The SNC requires completion of numerous technical assessments and reports including, but not limited to, inventory of the FSM's greenhouse gas emissions, analysis of mitigation options, assessment of the country's vulnerabilities and adaptation, and assessment of the FSM's capacity to implement the UNFCCC.

On January 17, 2008, Vice President Alik Alik selected members of an Expert Working Group to aid the office in preparing the Communication.

Designees for the Expert Working Group in the area of Greenhouse Gas Inventory and Mitigation are as follows:

  • Acting Secretary, Department of Resources and Development

  • Assistant Director, SBOC

  • Water Engineer, TC&I

  • Deputy Assistant Secretary, Division of UN/Multilateral Affairs, DFA

  • Jim Currie - VP Cooperative Research and Extension

  • Bill Raynor, Director, Micronesia Program

  • Tony Actouka, Chief of Energy, Department of T&I

Saying that he felt that it was important to continue the climate change country team concept that was successfully utilized during the preparation of the FSM's initial National Communication Vice President Alik also designated members of the FSM Climate Change Country team as follows:

  • Director of the Office of Environment and Emergency Management

  • Deputy Assistant Secretary, Division of UN/Multilateral Affairs, DFA

  • Mr. Patterson Shed, Executive Director, Conservation Society of Pohnpei

  • Assistant Secretary, Division of Infrastructure, TC&I

The efforts of the Department of Environment and Emergency Management will be aided by consultants who will collect the actual data for the communication.
