Congress adjourns with 20 Resolutions

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): January 30, 2004 - The Third Special Session of the Thirteenth Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia adjourned on January 27, with 20 adopted Resolutions.

The FSM Congress conveyed their profound gratitude and sincere appreciation to the "Members of the House of Representatives of the United States Congress for blessing our nation by their visit" during January 14 - 15, 2004.

Individual Resolutions were adopted for:

  1. Chairman Richard Pombo;
  2. Rep. Eni Faleomavaega;
  3. Rep. Frank Lucas;
  4. Rep. Jeff Flake;
  5. Rep. Dennis Rehberg;
  6. Rep. Dennis Cardozal
  7. Rep. Madeleine Bordallo; and
  8. Recognition the US Congressional staff members.

Similar resolutions were also adopted thanking officials from the US Department of Interior:

  1. Secretary Gale A. Norton;
  2. Deputy Secretary David Cohen; and
  3. Recognition to the staff from the Department of Interior.

The other Resolutions included:

  • Res. 13-98, approval of a grant for the bio-terrorism program;

  • Res. 13-93, setting the ceiling for estimated FY-04 funding at $32,700,000;

  • Res. 13-84, extension of the Third Special Session for additional days;

  • Res. 13-72, requesting a FSM Congressional session to be held in Yap;

  • Res. 13-69, discontinuation of service by Justice Richard E. Benson;

  • Res. 13-67, to accept financial assistance from the United States for fiscal year 2004;

  • Res. 13-68, approval of a proposal to the US DOI for supplemental funding for the Third National Economic Summit;

  • Res. 13-66, approving an application to US DOI to technical assistance funding for an Auditor Training program for 2004 and 2005; and

  • Res. 13-56, approval of the Grant Cooperative Agreement to the FSM from the US Center of Disease Control and Prevention for health preparedness; and response to bio-terrorism.
