ICT workshop to detail telecom concepts and policies

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Service): March 14, 2006 - The Department of Transportation, Communication and Infrastructure announces that a two-day workshop on "Policy Makers and Leadership on e-FSM" is scheduled for March 15 through 16.

According to the Department, the objective of the workshop is to provide very specific explanations of telecommunications concepts and policy related issues as it pertains to Nation's development of Information Communications Technologies (ICT) and policy awareness.

The workshop will be held at the Palikir campus of the College of Micronesia (COM/FSM). According to the TC&I, the workshop is a follow-up to the 2002 e-Pacifika workshop on National ICT strategy development which had outlined ICT goals and objectives for the Federated States of Micronesia.

It is anticipated that the workshop will provide a comprehensive overview of basic technical terminology and policy concerns relating to cost, capacity, economics and business opportunities.

The work-shop is being co-sponsored by the Department of TC& I, FSM Telecommunication Corporation, the College of Micronesia, the United States Embassy, the Sasakawa Pacific Island Nation;s Fund - Pacific Islands Digital Opportunities Research Committtee and the University of Hawaii Telecommunications and Information Policy Group.
