Monbusho offered again to FSM for 2003

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): March 15, 2002 - The Government of Japan has again announced to the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia, the availability of it's 2003 Monbukagakusho (Monbusho) Scholarship Program for FSM citizens.

Under the Government of Japan's Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, the Monbusho scholarship is offered to foreign students who wish to study at a Japanese professional training school.

To qualify for the scholarship, nominees must be:

  1. between the ages of 17 and 21,

  2. a high school graduates with good academic standing and

  3. have aspirations of continuing post secondary education in the following areas of studies:

    • Undergraduate Student
    • Research Student
    • Senshu-Gakko Student (College of Technology)

In Japan, the scholarship recipient will devote one year learning the Japanese language and spend the following year fulfilling their educational or vocational quests.

Deadline for applications and necessary documents to be submitted to the Department of Foreign Affairs is July 15, 2002.

Originally began as part of the "Bi-lateral Extension of Goodwill" between Japan and the FSM, the Monbusho Scholarship has over the years become another avenue for educational and vocational opportunities for the FSM.
