PIHOA Meeting & Institute of Medicine Committee's Visit

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): April 8, 1997 - An important meeting of the Pacific Islands Health Officers Association (PIHOA) is scheduled to be held on April 21 to the 23 in Saipan which will coincide with the visit of Committee members of the Institute of Medicine to meet with all health directors of the Pacific Basin Jurisdictions, according to a letter addressed to all FSM State Governors from Acting President Jacob Nena.

The Institute of Medicine (IOM) was recently funded by Health Resources and Services Administration to examine the health care services in the Pacific Basin and submit its findings and recommendations to the US Congress which could impact US support for health federal programs.

For this reason, the Acting President asks the support of all governors to ensure that their directors of health or their designees attend the PIHOA conference.

The following is a tentative schedule of the visits and the conference: April 14-17, the Committee members of the Institute of Medicine will visit all jurisdictions; April 18-19, IOM will meet with PIHOA members in Saipan; and April 21-23, PIHOA meeting.

PIHOA membership includes health directors of Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI), Guam, Republic of Palau (ROP), Republic of the Marshall Islands (ROM), American Samoa and the State of Hawaii.
