CEDAW 30 Year Anniversary Contest

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): April 14, 2010 - The United Nations Development Fund for Women, also known as UNIFEM, is celebrating 30 years of the United Nations Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) and sponsoring a photo/essay contest with the theme of 'Promoting Gender Equality & Women's Human Rights: "From national commitments to real change". UNIFEM is looking for participants to tell them the story of how women's lives have changed in your country/your community. There are two categories for submission, either with an essay or with a photo.

The essay submission must have a maximum of 1000 words and be written in any of the major Pacific languages with a clear title and an English translation attached.

The photo submission should be a digital photo (300dpi) or in print format with a 150 word description and a clear title.

They are offering two prizes for each category: Most informative = US$500 and Most Creative = US$250.

Applicants may submit multiple entries in one or both categories and each entry must include: name, address, phone contact & email address, and the contest is open to all age groups. Eligible countries are the Cook Islands, FSM, Fiji, Kiribati, Marshall Islands, Nauru, Niue, Palau, PNG, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tokelau, Tonga, Tuvalu, and Vanuatu.

All materials submitted must be original and not previously published, and the participant agrees to the condition that any material submitted for the award may be used by UNIFEM for not-for-profit advocacy and promotional materials, including but not limited to exhibitions, website, publications, documents, presentations, videos and PSA's. People whose materials are used will be fully credited and will receive complimentary copies.
