Government of the Federated States of Micronesia

Congratulatory Message from President Mori to President Obama

Palikir, Pohnpei (FSM Information Services): May 12, 2011 - Few days after the successful U.S. special military operation in Pakistan against Al Qaida, which resulted in the destruction of Osama bin Laden, the world's number one terrorist mastermind, President Mori, on May 05, 2011, wrote to U.S. President Obama, congratulating him for his leadership in forever ridding the world of its most feared and elusive terrorist.

In his letter, President Mori echoed President Obama's advice to the world to remain vigilant and not to let its guard down, just because bin Laden is gone, since there are other equally dangerous terrorists out there who are dedicated to the cause and are willing to continue the fight, and who may wish to avenge the death of their dear leader.

President Mori also noted the special and unique relationship enshrined in the Amended Compact between the Federated States of Micronesia and the United States, as a reason for FSM's support for the U.S. and its coalition partners in the war on terror. But he pointed out that the FSM believes strongly in the nobility of the cause against terrorism.

He assured President Obama of FSM's commitment to the U.S. and the fight against terrorism, noting that 15 of our young men and women have already made the ultimate sacrifice by dying on faraway battlefields in Afghanistan and Iraq, that others are fighting today side by side with young American men and women in those faraway lands and that others will join the fight in the coming months and years.

President Mori concludes his letter by saying "Again, Mr. President, I commend you for your leadership and for the much needed victory against the world's number one terrorist. We in the FSM are thankful that we can sleep well knowing the United States and our allies are relentlessly pursuing the fight against the enemy of the civilized world."
