Special Election for FSM Congress slated for July 3

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): May 22, 2007 - The National Elections Office has scheduled July 3^rd for the Special Election to fill the two vacancies in the 15^th Congress of the Federated States of Micronesia.

The at-large or four year seats for the State of Chuuk and Kosrae were vacated when President Emanuel (Manny) Mori from Chuuk and Vice President Alik L. Alik from Kosrae were sworn into their current roles.

Following their Oath of Office, Speaker Isaac V. Figir of the 15^th Congress declared the vacancy of the two seats.

The National Elections Office has announced that Thursday - May 24^th is the deadline for the office to receive nomination petitions.

In addition, the Office has also highlighted the following timelines for registered voters from the States of Chuuk and Kosrae:

May 29: Deadline to request absentee voting by mail;
June 03: Open for Travel votes, closing for NEW registration;
June 23: Deadline to request for voting at Special Polling Place.
