2nd FSM Games Organizing Committee & FSM ASA Meeting

PALIKIR, Pohnpei (FSM Information Service): May 30, 1997 - The final organizing meeting for the second FSM Games was held on Kosrae from 20-25 May, 1997, under the Chairmanship of Governor Moses Mackwelung. It was attended by representatives from Kosrae, Pohnpei, Chuuk and yap states, members of FSM Amateur Sports Association.

Following the opening session, the logistics, protocol, transportation, security, catering, medical and venue subcommittees reported on the work progress. The four FSM AMA State Representatives were given a tour of the athletes villages in Utwo, Malen and Tafunsak municipalities.

The sports competition committee chairman and tournament directors for baseball, basketball, canoe racing, Micronesia all-around, softball, spearfishing, swimming, table tennis, tennis, track and field, volleyball and weight lifting reported on progress of their preparations.

The tournament director explained the rules of the competition, games schedules and venues. The FSM ASA State representatives were given a tour of the sports venues.

The four FSM ASA State Representatives gave updates on the preparation of athletes and coaches from Chuuk, Kosrae, Pohnpei and Yap.

The deadline for submission of final delegation rosters, individual accreditation forms, state flags, state anthems and registration fee was extended from Friday, May 23rd to Friday, June 6, 1997, to help all states to be ready for the games.

The meeting concluded with an overview by Governor Mackwelung. All participants agreed that Kosrae has done an excellent job in preparation of the 2nd FSM games.
