President Mori Meets Citizens in Guam

HAGÅTÑA, Guam (FSM Consulate Office): August 17, 2009 - On Wednesday, August 12, 2009, President Emanuel Mori met with FSM business leaders, representatives, citizens, and guests at the Ramada Inn conference room, Tamuning, Guam.

The purpose of the meeting was for the President to discuss key issues for FSM and update the audience on some of the initiatives President Mori's Administration has worked toward and launched including electronic passport renewal to assist traveling citizens and those living abroad, especially in Guam and Honolulu, and a joint lending scheme with the FSM Development Bank (FSMDB) and Pacific Islands Development Bank (PIDB) to encourage export-led growth activities for FSM.

FSMDB Chairman, Iso Nahnken Ihlen Joseph, and PIDB President, Mr. Aren Palik, gave a presentation on the proposed lending scheme. FSM Chief Immigration Officer, Mr. Mohner Esiel, presented the passport program. SBOC Director, Mr. Fabian Nimea, gave an overview of the FSM economy in conjunction with the global recession. President Mori discussed issues such as climate change, sub-marine fiber optic cable, the education system, human resource capacity, transportation, trade, and citizens' contribution to the FSM economy through remittances.
