FSM to Host 7th Micronesia Presidents' Summit

Palikir, POHNPEI (FSM Information Services): August 17, 2007 - The Federated States of Micronesia will be hosting the 7th Micronesia Presidents' Summit slated for September 5, 2007 in the State of Chuuk.

The Micronesia Presidents' Summit is an annual gathering of the Presidents of the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of Palau and the Republic of the Marshall Islands. Hosting of this important gathering of Leaders rotates among the three nations.

Rotating the Summit's venue among the four FSM states provides an opportunity for the states to witness the Summit process and, importantly, to gain a better understanding of common sub-regional and international issues surrounding our Micronesian region.

Among others, the expected topics of discussion for the Summit range from compact-related to regional, sub-regional and global issues such as the Reauthorization of Airport Improvement Program, Full Restoration of Pell Grant, SEOG, Work Study Programs, the Pacific Plan, Trans-Pacific Fiber Optic Cable Project, Labor and Immigration, the Micronesia Challenge, Fuel (Bulk Purchasing of Petroleum), Maritime Surveillance, Quarantine Standardization, and the Global Environment Facility.

This year's Summit will be the third opportunity for the FSM to host the Summit. The First was in 2000 and the Second in 2004.
