FSM and China Signed an Agreement to Dispatch Chinese Experts to the FSM to Survey the Channel Bridge in Okat, Kosrae

Palikir, Pohnpei (Dept. of Foreign Affairs): October 25, 2011 - On Friday, October 14, 2011, the Honorable Lorin S. Robert, Secretary of Foreign Affairs of the Federated States of Micronesia, and Ambassador of the People's Republic of China in the FSM, H.E. Zhang Weidong, signed an agreement through friendly consultation to dispatch a group of experts to the FSM to survey the construction project of Channel Bridge in Okat in the State of Kosrae. Both FSM and China agreed that an amount of 450,000 RMB Yuan will be paid from the gratuitous assistance from China under the agreement on Economic and Technical Cooperation signed between the two Governments on December 31, 2009 for the experts to conduct the survey. If the survey is feasible, the two Governments will sign follow up agreements.

Secretary Lorin Robert thanked the Government of the People's Republic of China through Ambassador Zhang for the generous assistance to the FSM in his remarks. He further stated that these continued assistances from China are a symbol of friendly relations between FSM and China.

Ambassador Zhang Weidong, in his responding remarks, congratulated Secretary Robert on his re-appointment as the Secretary of FSM Department of Foreigner Affairs. He stated that FSM and China are both developing countries and both will learn from each other

Also present at the signing ceremony were officials from the FSM Department of Foreign Affairs and staff of the Embassy of the People's Republic of China.
