3rd Con-Con to convene on Monday

POHNPEI, Palikir (FSM Information Service): November 8, 2001 - The 3rd Constitutional Convention of the Federated State of Micronesia, as decided by the Pre-Convention Committee, will convene on November 12, 2001 at Palikir in Chambers of Congress at 10 a.m.

For the 3rd time since the formation of the Federation, the Convention will provide a forum for the public to deliberate on the existing Constitution and make necessary amendments or propose new issues to be added.

The Convention is scheduled for a duration of 30-days and may be extend an additional 15-days, if necessary.

According to the Chairman of the Pre-Convention, Harry Seymore, under the Constitution, the government allows every ten years the question of whether there is a need for a review of the Constitution. Last year's poll results called for a Convention for this year. Each State then elected its representatives and they are:

  • Chuuk - Kasio E. Mida, James Naich, Camillo Noket, Lorin Robert, Wesley Simina, and Sanphy William;

  • Kosrae - Aren Palik and Harry Seymore;

  • Pohnpei - Esmond Moses, Naiten O. Phillip, Casiano Shoniber and Beauleen C. Worswick;

  • Yap - John Haglelgam and James Lukan.

The public is invited to participate in the opening ceremony which will also be broadcasted live throughout the four States.
